Aug 22 – Potato Bush Camp, Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia

Our safari this morning started out along the nearby Chifungulu Channel.  The channel was lovely, peaceful and calm with a fair number of bird sightings.

Along the drive we also found a pool filled with Nile Lettuce.  Lots of birdlife here.

A couple of birds seen at this pool.

Squacco Heron

Rufous Billed Heron

We saw this Python Creeper.  They are very substantial and can grow to the point that they kill the tree upon which they are growing.

The excitement today was a leopard lazing in the shade, surveying her domain.

This mother elephant and her calf has been visiting the camp.  Hard to get a photo through the screen.

A few photos from the safari.

This evening, we had a special treat for dinner.  They put us back in the safari vehicles and we had about 10 minutes to a clearing in the bush.  There they had strung lanterns in the trees, light a campfire, and set up everything for a lovely bush dinner under the stars.

The setup.

The buffet.

The starry night.

Everyone agreed that it was a magical evening.
