Aug 28 – Chobe Game Lodge, Chobe National Park and Okavango Delta, Botswana

This morning’s safari was by safari vehicle through the park.  We saw a huge number of birds and animals.  First thing in the morning we saw three hippos that were asleep on the banks of the river.  But the river didn’t seem to have a very big hippo population.

The highlight of the safari was seeing a pride of lions at a kill.  They had brought down a Cape Buffalo.  Our best count was about 12 individuals in the pride.  There were two male lions and a number of larger cubs as well ss all the females.

And the kill quickly caught the attention of some jackals.

Some photos of the park from our jeep safari.

In the afternoon we took another boat safari.  We really love the boat safaris…not nearly as bumpy and dusty as those on land.

The little elephant seems to be having fun.
Water cools them.  Trunks hold up to 15 liters (about 4 gallons).
