Some of the beautiful and unusual landscape around our camp.
Today we are headed out for a walk in Isalo National Park. Some rice fields that we saw as we headed into the park...
and a nearby village.
Some beautiful views of the rock as we entered the park.
The walk was relatively flat with only small sets of rocky stairs going up and down the hillside. Saw tons of interesting things.
Shield Bugs and larva
Walking sticks
Flame tree
Net Throwing spider. This one was so well camouflaged that it was impossible to see until the guide poked it a bit with a bit of straw that made it move.
Dragonfly
Twig Mimic Mantis
Madagascar Bulbul
Leaf Bug Larva
Then we found our primary goal of the day, the white lemur. We had to go off trail only a few yards to get to them. There weren’t a lot but enough to enjoy then.
Just down the trail was a very large family of ring-tailed lemurs cavorting in the trees and along the trail.
We watched them for quite a while. There were a number of year old lemurs and they were playing everywhere and play fighting. Fun to watch.
We also saw a
couple of mothers with small babies.
A short hike
beyond and we were at a campground where there were more ring-tailed lemurs and
a lone brown lemur. A fire had gone
through the area not long before and the guides don’t know if the other brown
lemurs were killed or moved away. But
one lone brown lemur remained and had been adopted by this family of ring-tails. So he wasn’t alone.
On the hike back we saw a juvenile Malagasy Giant Chameleon...
but didn’t bother to stop to see more things. It was getting hot.
On the drive out we saw a lot of laundry hanging on bushes to dry.
We had an lazy afternoon in the room.
About 5:00 we
headed out again to a nearby area that featured beautiful rock formations.
Our destination was a rock arch and sunset. The landscape around here was stark and beautiful, especially in the golden evening light.
There was a pretty good crowd there waiting for the sun to set behind the natural arch.
We all wanted photos of the sun setting through the arch. Interesting photos.
The sunset itself was beautiful.
Then it was back to the lodge for dinner and a good night sleep.
