Sep 22 – Lemurs and Other Woodland Animals

We had two walks today.  Mary opted out of the first one as it was expected to be long and the heavy undergrowth in some of the areas is difficult for her to navigate.  She spent the morning working on photos.

Paul had a lot of good sightings on the walk.

Photos from the woodlands and the walking trails.

Some of the things seen.

Bird Nest Fern

Crab Spider

Madagascar Kingfisher, a jewel of a little bird

A massive tree fern

Twig Mimic Praying Mantis

Pandanus

Brown Lemur

Golden-Crowned Sifaka

A baby sifaka cuddled in with Mom.

Indri, the largest of the lemur species

Spectacled Tretraka

Ground Orchids

Paradise Flycatcher

An unknown chameleon

Some caterpillars

Mary joined the afternoon walk.

In addition to a few of the other sights, including more brown lemurs, we saw

A Male Parsons Chameleon

Madagascar Bulbul

A nearly impossible to see Mossy Leaf Tailed Gecko.

When Madagascar was a French colony, the French built a railroad from Tana to the east coast of the island.  This lovely train station was on the rail line.
